Modeling Threat of Runoff to Coastal Ocean Environments
As human activities intensify on coastlines worldwide, the potential for harmful impacts to coastal ocean ecosystems – via sediment, nutrient runoff and chemical pollution – is growing. In situ data on runoff is rarely available. I am designing a global geographically weighted regression model in ArcGIS that describes which threats pose the most harm to coastal oceans, using big data and information on runoff processes. The results will provide a tool for coastal managers to prioritize actions.
